Kilimanjaro is one of the 26 regions in Tanzania. The capital of the region is Moshi. Kilimanjaro region is home to Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro Region is bordered to the North and East by Kenya, to the South by the Tanga Region, to the Southwest by the Manyara Region, and to the West by the Arusha Region. According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Kilimanjaro Region was 1,381,149.
The Regional Commissioner of the Kilimanjaro Region is M.O. Babu.
The Kilimanjaro Region is administratively divided into 6 districts: Rombo, Hai, Moshi Rural, Moshi Urban, Mwanga, and Same.
Getting there and getting around
Kilimanjaro can be reached in from around 28 locations in UK and Ireland with airlines such as Condor Airlines, Swiss Airline, KLM, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways.
Kilimanjaro International Airport is the second, albeit small, international airport of Tanzania (the first is Julius Nyerere International Airport). It serves the Kilimanjaro area including the cities of Arusha and Moshi near Mount Kilimanjaro, and the international tourism industry based on Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Park. The airport styles itself as "the gateway to Africa's wildlife heritage".
Other modes of transport include train, bus, taxi, boat and car with various economical choices and packages.

Some of the must-see places in / around Kilimanjaro are National Parks, Moshi regional Library, Moshi's club, Harry's Club, International Community Choir, International School Moshi, Mount Kibo and Kilimanjaro View Lodge.
Food & Drink
The renowned eateries in / around Kilimanjaro include, but are not limited to, Kili-Java, Indoitaliano, Milan's Resturant, El Rancho, Sikh Club, Salzburg Steak House, Big Bite, Golden Shower, Spice Garden, Mpingo Cafe , Kill-Sert Resturant, Peace Park restaurant and Bar and Mama Clementina foundation.
When it comes to drinking Kilimanjaro has got even more to offer. E.g. Kili-View Pub, Golf the Pub, Tanzania Coffee lounge, Glacier Cafe and The Coffee Shop.
Entry Requirements - Visas
All British passport holders need a visa to travel to Tanzania and you should obtain one prior to travelling from your nearest Tanzanian diplomatic mission. It is possible to obtain a tourist visa for a single entry at the main ports of entry to Tanzania but this is subject to the fulfilment of all immigration requirements. If you need a multiple entry visa arrange this through a Tanzanian diplomatic mission before your arrival in Tanzania. Otherwise you will have to buy a single entry visa each time you enter the country.
Please note that working as a volunteer in Tanzania requires a Class C work permit. This should be obtained from your nearest Tanzanian diplomatic mission before you travel. If you overstay the validity of your visa, or work without an appropriate permit, you will be liable to arrest, detention and a fine before being deported.
Entry Requirements - Passport validity
You should have a valid passport and visa when visiting Tanzania and Zanzibar. In order to apply for a visa your passport must have validity of not less than six months.
Entry Requirements - Yellow Fever Certificates
Travellers from non-endemic countries travelling through endemic countries are subject to yellow fever vaccination only if they stay outside the Airport or have a long connection up to twelve hours: See the Tanzanian Government website for more details:http://www.tanzania.go.tz/tips.html.
As some countries list Tanzania as a Yellow Fever endemic country you may also be asked for a certificate after departing Tanzania and arriving at other destinations.
Basic Swine Flu checks are carried out at the main points of entry to Tanzania.
